Work with children
The law says that children’s views must be considered and that children must be involved in decisions that affect their education. However, this has to be balanced against the fact that children and young people can be negatively affected by conflict between their parents and their teachers. Children’s views are important and they can then be included in the mediation process, if they wish, this can be discussed further with the mediator.
All our mediators have an up-to-date PVG Scheme Record with Disclosure Scotland, and we have many years’ experience of working with children and young people. We have also mediated between children whose playground squabbles were spilling out into the wider community.
Work with families
Conflict and disputes at school can affect families in different ways. We support parents, children, grandparents and other family members to communicate effectively, both with each other and with teachers at school. For children and young people to achieve their full potential and become successful learners, confident individuals, effective contributors and responsible citizens, the adults around them need to be working together as a team.
